came into existence in 1781 at Howrah,
WB. In 1976 following Nationalization,
the Company was amalgamated with Indian
Standard Wagon Company and renamed as
Burn Standard Company Limited. At
present, Company has two (02)
Engineering units at Howrah & Burnpur
and one (01) Foundry unit at Howrah.
Monorail Project at Kolkata
Burn Standard Co. Ltd. (BSCL)
intends to set up a Hybrid Monorail
Transportation System under “BUILD OWN
OPERATE AND MAINTAIN (BOOM)” passing
through Budge Budge to Ruby General
Hospital to cover about 30 Kms.
initially attracting an investment of Rs.
4000 Crores approx in the form of
Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).
The proposed Hybrid Monorail shall have
capacity of 50,000 PPHPD, which is more
than adequate to meet the requirement of
the City. The Ridership could be minimum
2,00,000 passengers per day. It is self
propelled CNG/LPG and having
re-generative braking system for maximum
efficiency. The entire transportation
system shall have no pollution and
eligible for Carbon credit.
BSCL will have technology partner from
the Global resources who will be
providing the entire technology.
Investment in the said Hybrid Monorail
Transportation System will be arranged
through FDI provider.
BSCL has submitted a proposal to the
Government of West Bengal for granting
Right of way for setting up of Hybrid
Monorail Transportation System in
Kolkata without any investment from the
Government of West Bengal and other
local authorities. This proposal has
been agreed by Govt of West Bengal.
After complying the due formalities, MOU
will be signed for execution of Monorail
project at Kolkata. Total execution
period is approximately 36 months.
